Prerequisite: A score of 70 or better on the Algebra section of the Math Placement Test is required for the course or completion of the Algebra Tutorial Program offered by the Math Learning Center

Textbook: PreCalculus, Fifth Edition, by Stewart, Redlin and Watson, Brooks Cole 2009

Course Description: This course is a preparation for the Math 113-114 Calculus sequence and DOES NOT SATISFY any general education requirement. We will cover the following topics:

  • Algebra Review
  • Functions
  • Polynomials
  • Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
  • Trigonometry

Exams:

  • Test 1 - Friday, February 12
  • Test 2 - Friday, March 5
  • Test 3 - Friday, April 9
  • Test 4 - Wednesday, May 3

Final Exam: Wednesday, May 12, 7:30 am-9:30 am

Grading: Your grade for the course will be calculated based on four exams, 5 quizzes and a final exam. Each test is worth 100 points, quizzes are worth 10 points each and the final exam 150 points. The sum of these grades divided by 6 will determine your grade according to the scale:
        A: 90-100   B: 80-89.9    C:70-79.9   D:65-69.9   F: below 65
  + or - will be attached to the grade for the upper or lower 2 points in each range

Homework: Homework problems will be assigned at the end of each class and reviewed at the beginning of the next class meeting. Reading the sections of the text related to the problems is a part of the homework assignment. I will post the assignment regularly on the course webpage.
