This course will provide an understanding of the fundamental calculus
concepts needed to pursue careers in business, economics, and the life
and social sciences. Topics covered in the class will include Functions,
limits, derivatives, integration and related applications.
TEXTBOOKS
Calculus for Business, Economics and the Social and Life Sciences
(10th edition) By Hoffmann and Bradley. Material to be covered will
include sections from Chapters 1-5 in the text.
PREREQUISITES
Passing the Math Placement Test or successful completion of the
self-paced Algebra Review offered by the Math Learning Center.

The grading scale will be 90-100: A, 80-89: B, 70-79: C,
60-69:D, Less than 60: F. The evaluation of the grade will be

There will be ten thirty minute quizzes during the semester and
three inclass semester exams. There will be
no make-up quizzes and make-up exams may be possible only in the case
of documented emergencies. The sections for the quizzes and exams
will be announced in the class.
There will be one comprehensive final exam
in this course worth 25%. The Final Exam is scheduled
to be on Dec 14, 2009 (Monday) from 7:30 PM - 10:15 PM.
CALCULATORS
A scientific or graphing calculator may be used for the course. Unless
otherwise
announced, use of calculators will not be allowed on quizzes or
tests.
