MATH 110-003 - Finite Mathematics - Fall 2006

Announcements:

Class coverage.  As of Thursday November 30, we have covered part of Section 7.6.  Please try the problems in that section.

Final Exam.   The final exam will be given on Thursday Dec. 14, 2006, 130pm-415pm in the same room where we have class.  The final exam is cumulative, however there will be no questions taken explicitly from Chapter 5 (Counting).  This does not mean that there will be no counting to do on the final.  Of course you will need to know how to do this for any questions taken from Chapters 6 and 7.  The point is for you to concentrate your studying on Chapters 6 and 7.  Also since we did not get to Sections 7.7 or Confidence Intervals so this will not be on the exam. Problems on the final will be similar in nature and difficulty to problems on the mid-term exams.  Calculators are permitted

Midterm Grades.  As you may have noticed, I did not assign midterm grades for this class.  The reason for this is that your second exam was given shortly after the deadline for submitting the midterm grades and your midterm grade is more meaningful if you have completed more of your graded work.  You can compute your midterm grade as follows:

1.  Compute Q = your quiz average (sum your first 9 quiz scores, multiply this number by 10 and divide the result by 9).

2.  Midterm average = (Q + score on Exam 1 + score on Exam 2) divided by 3.

3.  Use the grade scale below to calculate your midterm letter grade.

                                                A+: 99 +;     A: 92-98;   A-:  90-91;
                                                B+: 88-89;    B: 82-87;   B-:  80-81;
                                                C+: 78-79;    C: 72-77;   C-:  70-71;
                                                                    D: 60-69;
                                                                    F:    0-59.

If you do not know your quiz grades or exam grades, you can pick up your uncollected quizzes outside my office door and you can pick up uncollected exams from me during my office hours or at any other time that I am in.  If after this you still have questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

Also please be aware that more than half of your graded work remains to be done (4 remaining quizzes, one exam and the final).

Uncollected Quizzes.  Quizzes taken on a Thursday will be returned at the beginning of class the following Tuesday.  If you do not pick up your quiz at that time, it will be placed in an envelope outside my office door (room 261, Science and Technology I).
