        COURSE OVERVIEW:  The main goals of this course are described in the textbook’s preface:
        to deepen your understanding of linear algebra, especially with respect to proofs and the role of
        linear algebra in mathematics and applications.  This builds on the work done in the prerequisite
        courses, Math 290 and Math 203.

        TEXT:    LINEAR ALGEBRA   by Friedberg, Insel and Spence (Prentice Hall).

        MEETING:  Monday and Wednesday, 7:20-10:00pm, Krug Hall room 5.

        GRADING: Grading will be fair and impartial.  It is based on a mixture of graded homework,

        class participation, exams and a final exam.  Points used as the basis of the grade will be:

        Homework (100 pts.); Class participation (50 pts.); Two exams (200 pts.); Final exam (150 pts.).

        POLICIES:   The GMU Honor code is in effect at all times and students are expected to be fully

        aware of its requirements.  Group work may be part of the course, in which case group members
        will truthfully report on non-contributing members.  Absence from exams must be for a valid reason
        and requires prior notification except in extreme circumstances.  DO NOT ARRANGE TO
        LEAVE BEFORE THE FINAL AND EXPECT TO TAKE IT EARLY.
 
        IMPORTANT DATES:  Last day to drop – no tuition liability – June 6

        Last day to drop without dean’s signature  – June 13

        EXAM DATES

        Exam 1 – Tentative – Monday, June 16

        Exam 2 – Tentative – Wednesday, July 5
        Final Exam – Monday, July 24, 7:30-10:15pm.
