Prerequisite
A score of 75 or better on the Pre-Algebra section of the Math Placement Test. is required for the course.

Course Description
This course meets the quantitative reasoning requirement, one of the Foundation requirements of the University General Education program. The goal of the Foundation requirement is to help ensure that students are equipped with the tools and techniques necessary to succeed in college and throughout their lives and careers.

The course will introduce some elementary concepts of counting and probability, laying a foundation for further study in statistics.
Specifically we will cover the following topics :

  • Chapter 5 - Sets and Counting
  • Chapter 6 - Probability
  • Chapter 7 - Probability and Statistics
  • Confidence Intervals

Grading
Your grade for the course will be calculated based on four exams (100 points each), 5 quizzes (10 points each) and a final exam (150 points). The average of these six grades will determine your grade according to the scale:
   A: 90-100   B:80-89.9  C:70-79.9   D:65-69.9  F: below 65
+ or - may be attached to the grade for the upper or lower 2 points in each range

Test Dates
  • Test 1:    Friday, September 25
  • Test 2:    Friday, October 16
  • Test 3:    Monday, November 9
  • Test 4:    Monday December 7
  • Final Exam:   Monday, December 14, 7:30-10:15
There will be NO MAKE-UP tests or quizzes.

Homework
Homework problems will be assigned at the end of each class and reviewed at the beginning of the next class meeting. Reading the sections of the text related to the problems is a part of the homework assignment.

Honor Code
