Title: The Heisenberg group: geometry, analysis, and number theory

Abstract: The Heisenberg group is a 3-dimensional space with strong connections to a range of subjects including physics, control theory, hyperbolic geometry, and number theory.

In this talk, I will provide some intuition for the Heisenberg group using illustrations and 3D models, and then describe recent progress in two directions of study on the Heisenberg group, namely geometry of numbers and quasicrystal theory.

Time: Monday, February 13, 2017, 11:00 - 11:50 a.m.

Place: Exploratory Hall, room 3301

Refreshments will be served at 10:30 a.m.
