Title: Mathematical Perseverance, or, Try to Hear What the Mathematics Is Trying to Tell You

Abstract: I have over the years, often failed to follow the advice in my subtitle. In this talk, I hope to describe several research projects that ran aground because someone did not listen hard enough. I’ll begin with Euler and end with a recent adventure taken from the pages of OEIS (Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences).

Time: Friday, April 29, 2016, 3:30-4:20 p.m.

Place: Exploratory Hall, room 4106

Refreshments will be served at 3:00 p.m.
