Title: Patterns in permutations

Abstract: A permutation pattern is an order-isomorphism class of a sequence, e.g. of a subsequence of a permutation. We will consider permutation patterns and their various applications and generalizations, look at the sets of permutations with various forbidden patterns, their cardinalities, rates of growth, etc. We will also consider the partial order on permutations under pattern containment and the properties of its Mobius function.

Time: Friday, November 7, 2014, 3:30-4:20 p.m.

Place: Exploratory Hall, room 4106

Refreshments will be served at 3:00 p.m.
