Title: James Joseph Sylvester: Jewish Mathematician in a Victorian World

Abstract: Highlighting several lesser known episodes in Sylvester's life, this talk will explore how, as a Jew, Sylvester managed to "navigate" his way through the Victorian British landscape and craft a career for himself as a research mathematician.
