DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
COLLOQUIUM OCTOBER 24, 2008

Speaker: Larry Washington, University of Maryland

Title: Number fields and elliptic curves

Abstract: Number fields and elliptic curves are two of the favorite objects for number theorists. I will start with a brief introduction to each, then point out some analogies between them and how to understand phenomena for one in terms of the other.

Time: Friday, October 24, 2008, 3:30-4:20 p.m.

Place: Science and Technology Building I, Room 242

Refreshments will be served before the talk at 3:00 p.m. in Room 222.
