Speaker: John Conway, George Washington University
Title: Subnormal operators and function theory
Abstract:
This expository talk will start with an introduction to subnormal
operators and a discussion of the important result of James Thomson on point
evaluations. This result means that some operator theoretic problems for
subnormal operators are equivalent to problems on analytic functions of a
single complex variable. This will be illustrated by some examples of
problems that can be so solved and some that I think will be solved in the
future.
Place: Science and Technology Building I, Room 242
Refreshments will be served before the talk at 3:00 p.m. in Room 222.
