Title: Discrete Geometric Gradient Flows

Abstract: We recall basic elements of shape differential calculus and use them to formulate geometric gradient flows. We examine five examples: mean curvature flow, surface diffusion, optimal shape design, biomembranes, and director fields on flexible surfaces. We illustrate each case with insightful simulations.

Time: Friday, April 4, 2014, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Place: Exploratory Hall (formerly S & T II), Room 4106
