Title: A brief overview of a 2D coupled grain growth model and a 3D implicit-transition method for grain growth.

Abstract: In this talk I will give a quick overview of a coupled 2D grain growth model and explain the numerical issues we had to overcome to be able to obtain a numerical method. Afterword I will present a new approach for studying grain growth in 3D. This approach is based on a Voronoi tessellation. We propose a novel ideal for evolving the tessellation and obtain an energy decreasing evolution. The main advantage of this approach is that we don’t have to handle manually any topological changes during the evolution. Partial results will be presented. This is a joint work with the master student Alejandro Sazo. This work is funded by project FONDECYT N° 11160744, Chile.
