CHAOS: An Introduction to Dynamical Systems

by K. Alligood, T. Sauer, J.A. Yorke

CHAOS: An Introduction to Dynamical Systems is a new textbook aimed at introducing the world of nonlinear dynamics and chaos to students in mathematics and the sciences. The authors' goal is to explain the basic concepts in a way that reflects the wide range of influences present during the development of nonlinear dynamics, from mathematics, theoretical science, experimental science, and computer simulation.

The major themes are discrete dynamical systems, chaos, fractals, topics in nonlinear differential equations, and bifurcations. The book is designed to be used by undergraduates or beginning graduate students who have completed the calculus sequence and a course in differential equations and matrix algebra. The material has been developed and class-tested by the authors at two universities.
